Our Visian® ICL lenses from STAAR® Surgical are made of the biocompatible material called "Collamer" - a combination of “collagen” and “polymer", which works in natural harmony with your eye and body.
Many patients are turned away from laser vision correction surgery because of their thin corneas. Fortunately, as ICL does not involve the cornea, having thin corneas is no issue.
Unlike with laser vision correction procedures, ICL is able to correct high refractive errors, with up to 1,800 degrees of myopia and 600 degrees of astigmatism being correctable.
The ICL procedure is minimally invasive, with the flexible collamer lens being inserted through a 2 - 3 mm micro-incision.
The procedure takes only 20 - 30 minutes, and is completely painless. Patients will be able to resume daily activities in just 2 -3 days!
Unlike with most laser vision correction procedures, ICL surgery does not remove corneal tissue, thus allowing for any future corneal procedures needed.
Our collamer ICL lenses have UV protective properties that will block harmful UV rays from harming your eyes.
As ICL surgery does not involved the cutting of the cornea or removal of any corneal cells, the corneal nerve endings remain untouched, and the eyes lubricating functions unaffected.
What the ICL procedure does is add a corrective lens to correct refractive errors. And if your prescription changes or new vision options become available, the lens can simply be removed and replaced.
Many ICL patients observe excellent night vision. In comparison with high myopia patients who have had laser vision correction, there is a lower incidence seeing haloes and starbursts at night.
